The Big Bertha

Although the name was commonly applied to a whole variety of large-calibre German artillery guns the "Big Bertha" ('Dicke Berta') actually referred to a single siege gun, at that time the world's largest and most powerful, so i used the same name for the biggest trout I caught in Iowa til today.

Species:  Brown Trout, natural wild fish (not the hatchery planted fish)

Measurements are: 28 1/8 in and 6 lb. 15 oz

Date: 10 July 2005 Sunday

Location: NE Iowa.

I will include more pictures as soon I download them all, but this fish will be considered for Iowa state record 2005, registration pending.

The current all times Iowa record fish is 29in and 15 lb. 6 oz. , but was an older brood fish that was stocked into one of the winter trout ponds at that size.

The fight was amazing it lasted about 20 min, tackle was a Ultra light Eagle GT  6.6  and Quantum Catalyst PTi. Line 2.2 lb Tectan DAM.
